All students need a health insurance.
Students from EU member states as well as students who come from countries which are part of a Social Security Agreement (EEA countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Switzerland, Turkey and Tunisia) have to clarify with their health insurance company in their home country prior to their arrival which way of health insurance is the best.
In most cases, they get a European Health Insurance Card, are released from compulsory insurance in Germany and they receive medical care in emergencies.
For more information, visit the website of the European Commission for Employment, Social Affairs and Integration.
All other students (non-EU students) must confirm their health insurance in Germany by a statutory health insurance, in order thus to exempt from the statutory health insurance in Germany.
But remember, that international insurance does not always contain the same benefits as the statutory health insurance in Germany and thus problems could occur in the event of a disease problem.

All students have an accident insurance through the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This insurance covers all accidents that are associated with the study in Stralsund.
If such an accident should happens, you need to inform the department II of Fachhochschule Stralsund about the accident within three days. The colleague then notifies the insurance company.
If you do not inform the FH Stralsund about the accident, you cannot claim later.
